I have found a great
story that I want to
share with you, it comes from the book of 1 kings. David is an old man
and he
is close to death, so he puts his sonSolomon on the
throne as king to rule as the new king.David gives Solomon his last
orders, and shortly after he dies. Solomon is a great king and and prays often. What he
prays for is key here, he asks for wisdom, and God gives it toHim. It is said
in the Bible that Solomon had more wisdom than the grains of sand on a
beach,
everything Solomon does he does with wisdom and understanding. He rules
wisely,
judges wisely, and his kingdom does wonderful work for God. He decides
to build
a temple for God, which he does, it takes him 11 years to complete.
Then he
builds himself a temple, this takes 13 years. Some where along the way
Solomon
loses sight of how important God is and that he is not more
important than God.Solomon thinks of himself very highly and over time
he turns
away from God. God brings enemies against Solomon and later in the
book, God
says that he is going to tear the kingdom out of Solomon's hand.
In
the end, Solomon dies and is replaced by
his son Jeroboam. Solomon's downfall all started with him forgetting
what was
truly important, God's will more than what we want. When we are in
God's light
,we are perfect,I know that is hard to believe, but true. The moments
spent
doing God's will there is no imperfection, just truth. The most
important
lesson we can learn from Solomon is that if we
do as God wants, we are in the light of perfection, and when we step
out of the
light and start to believe we do not need God, our life falls apart. Sin is soon to
follow, trouble is everywhere, and we begin to drift away from God's
plan for
our lives. So, whatever you do, try to always stay in the light, because when
you are in the light, you can see everything clearly.
God bless,
-Doug
